‘Clothes
shape our passage as moving surfaces in space and mark the traces we
make along the way, ‘for to live is to leave traces’. (Walter
Benjamin)'
The
realms of photographic theory, activation of the senses and fine art
tradition overlap in my work, embracing the possibilities of new
digital technology. The media of my work delves into the relationship
between photography and the moving image. I work with photographs,
photographic sequences and video. The images show moments in time,
capturing the flow of the fabric, offering the opportunity to
consider movement and its activation of surfaces.
My
aims are to reposition drapery, moving it from historically
'decorative embellishment' as found in painting and sculpture, to
the primary attention of the work. As part of a layered
dialogue, the work can call on memory, perception and on haptic
experience.
